Great News and Harvest of Giving!

We had 120 students sign Screen-Free Pledge cards during our PTO sponsored, third annual, Wellness Week! GREAT NEWS! Every student who signed a pledge card is receiving both a Lazer Kraze pass AND a family day pass to the YMCA. Our parent volunteers, led by Jennifer Young, made some great connections with local business who donated prizes and "Try It Tuesday" foods, including: Acre, Lucky's Market, Fusian, Worthington Community Center, YMCA, AMF Bowling, Lazer Kraze, and Flux+Flow Important Dates Report Cards Were Sent Home Last Friday This Week: Now - Thurs: 5th graders accepting donations in person for Harvest of Giving (details below) 11/16 Parent Teacher Conferences 4-7:30 and parents provide teacher/staff dinner (drop food off by 4) Next Week: 11/20 Parent Teacher Conferences 4-7:30 11/22-11/24 NO SCHOOL Thanksgiving Break Plan Ahead: 12/1 Student Flu Clinic 12/1 Middle School Dance, 7-9 pm 12/8 Carnival Kickoff Party 6:30 to 9:30 pm 12/9 District Literacy & Numeracy Academy (doors open at 8:45, activities for the family followed by a free afternoon at COSI) 12/12 4th and 5th Grade Concert 12/14 Middle School Concert Breakfast Menu Lunch Menu Food Services Site The 5th graders at Indianola are so, so motivated to make a difference in the world ! While you are in the building, please view their informational displays about the charities for the Harvest of Giving Walkathon. This week, our school population is invited to give spare change and dollars as well as online contributions. This Friday is the big day: students will walk five miles to support these causes! The walkathon is a vehicle to demonstrate commitment and humanitarianism. 5 miles is a long way and that is quite purposeful. We endure and persevere because we can. Because we want to make the world a better place. Thank you so very much for your consideration. Charities include: 1.Operation USA provides multi-faceted disaster relief to: Puerto Rico, Mexico, Texas/Louisiana, Florida 2.All Hands Volunteers does the same for: Florida, Texas, US Virgin Islands 3.Harry Chapin Food Bank , provides food relief for Southwest Florida 4.Houston Food Bank,provides food relief for the residents of Houston and surrounding counties. 5. Red Rover helps animals rescued from disasters or neglect. They are working in the continental US in Florida and Texas. If you choose to donate online please message the amount to Ronda McIntyre (5th grade teacher) at Nothing is too small! Seeing the totals rise each day is so motivating! The PTO is organizing a Staff Appreciation Dinner on Thurs, Nov. 16, the first night of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please bring items for our staff and teachers to enjoy during their long day at school!! Carnival Kickoff Party The planning begins for the 2018 Carnival!! Please join us Friday, December 8th from 6:30 to 9:30 at St. James Episcopal Church, 3400 Calumet St. to eat, drink, hang out and learn about how we plan the biggest fundraiser of the year to support Indianola Informal. All parents and kids are welcome. Bring a dish or drinks to share. Winter Wonderland: Middle School Dance Come, join us, as we embark upon a joyful journey through snow covered mountains until you reach The Land Of Wonder... ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS are invited! FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1, 7PM - 9PM COST: $5 IN ADVANCE, $6 AT THE DOOR There will be Food, Fun, and lots of Dancing! Volunteers needed! Please sign up here. Frederick's Bookstore Returns Thanks to the help of several parents (and one special grandparent) students can now get a gently used book from the Frederick's cabinet on Wednesday and Friday mornings before school (approx 8:30-9).
